I've had extensive experience using both gmail (several accounts for over a year) and Yahoo Mail Beta and can tell you absolutely that Yahoo Mail Beta is by far better than gmail.
It's not just my opinion but a general consensus by tech writers all over the web. I don't like gmail for many reasons and have found Yahoo Mail to be much more convenient, straightforward and easier to use and that's even before the new Yahoo Mail upgrade.
There are many things about gmail that is oddball, strange and quirky, a feeling shared by people all over the web. Gmail is considered to be a flop never having lived up to its hype. There are things about gmail that I really, really hate that I just can't get used to, many aspects of which are downright annoying even infuriating.
If I had a choice I'd pick Yahoo Mail (non-beta) hands down. Yahoo Mail Beta has received very positive reviews including one very glowing article
in the Wall Street Journal recently.
