Why is gmail constantly in beta?

Excluding search, everything from Google is beta! Although the "beta" label carries a certain amount of "web 2.0 cool" thesedays...
Why is gmail constantly in beta?
I think this is just for legal purposes. As long as they call it "beta", nobody can complain if they add or remove features from it.
Reply:So when it screws up, they can say "Sorry, we're still in the beta testing stage and can't be held responsible for you not getting email for a week."
Reply:because they are still working on it's enhancement and it's still under dovelopment , and it may have some bugs ,tha's y it's still in beta stage

When the final version will be out ,u can assume it not to have any bugs which it may have at the moment , and bugs can only be seen by using it so it's running in beta stage
Reply:Gmail has been in beta for quite a while. In its early days they made quite a few changes to it. I have not seen any changes in quite a while. I would recommend contacting google to see what they have to say.
Reply:alpha beta r all standards of a s/w
